Preliminary agreement on sale of Rotterdam terminal to Hutchison Port

Published by January 16,2020

Danish shipping giant Pr.Mulser-MaSkk port operations company APM Terminals said it has reached a preliminary agreement to sell one of its two Rotterdam container terminals to Hong Kong's largest independent terminal operator Hutchison.

The agreement is based on an agreement that in the short term, the APM terminals Rotterdam will continue to exist as an independent organization. These include a five-year cargo volume guarantee provided by a P Moller Maersk company and a four-year guarantee provided by Hutchison Whampoa Group not to force terminal staff to lay off staff. In the long run, Hutchison Whampoa, the maritime director of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, reported that they intend to seek an extension of the terminal lease.

APM Terminals

With an annual throughput of 3.25 million TEUs, it is one of the largest container terminals in Europe. It is an important transshipment hub for the UK, Scandinavia and Baltic markets, and has a strong intermodal connection with the European inland continent. Hutchison Whampoa already has an adjacent ECT Delta Terminal, increasing the possibility of synergy.

APM Terminals will retain its ultra-modern 2.7 million TEU Masvracht Terminal II terminal, located approximately one mile west of APMT Rotterdam.

APM Terminals is negotiating a sales agreement with its union and its Working Committee (EWC), the labor advisory body required by some Dutch multinational companies. It must also seek approval from antitrust regulators.
