Singapore Port ushers in record year and best performing decade

The Port of Singapore has recorded strong growth over the past decade. In particular, under the severe global economic situation, container throughput in 2019 reached a record high of 37.2 million 20 foot equivalent units (TEU).

 


On January 13, Dr. Lin Bingmin, Senior Minister of State of the Ministry of Transport and Health of Singapore, announced the performance of Singapore Port 2019 at the Singapore Maritime Foundation New Year Cocktail Party. Dr. Lin also announced that Chairman of the BW Group, Mr. Su Manbao, has been re-appointed as the Chairman of the Singapore Maritime Foundation for a two-year term, from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2021. For his contribution to Singapore Maritime, Mr. Sumbaum won the Star Partner Award for Public Service Transformation in 2019.
 


Container and cargo throughput and ship tonnage

 

 
Singapore's container throughput in 2019 reached 37.2 million TEUs, an increase of 1.6% from 36.6 million TEUs in 2018. The port of Singapore handled a total of 622,600 tons of cargo in 2019. In 2019, the total tonnage of ships arriving at the port reached 2.85 billion tons.
 


Fuel sales

 
Singapore is still an important fuel port, with 47.5 million tons of fuel sales in 2019.

Singapore Ship Registry continues to rank among the world's top ship registries, reflecting Singapore's reputation as an international shipowner's preferred flag. In 2019, the gross tonnage of ships under the Singapore flag reached 97.3 million tons.
